Chad
The Aloba Arch is the largest natural arch formation outside of the United States. Spanning an estimated length of 250 feet, with an arch height of nearly four hundred feet, it is arguably the most amazing natural feature located in the country of Chad. Due to its remoteness and ongoing difficulties in the region, it is one of the least visited record-holding natural sites in the Sahara.
It is unknown exactly when the Aloba Arch may have first been discovered by humans, though it might have been during early migratory periods when this region of Africa was wetter. It was not identified by western explorers until the early 20th century.
The Aloba Arch, located in the Ennedi Mountains of Northern Chad near the borders of Libya and Sudan, was carved from sandstone by millions of years of erosion. It is both immense in length as well as height, and the not the longest, the combination makes it possibly the world’s finest natural arch.
The Alboa Arch is in an extremely remote corner of the Sahara Desert, with virtually no infrastructure to speak of and located in a country where international tourism is virtually non-existent. This makes the Alboa Arch one of the rarest bucket list items and most pristine natural sites in the world. Web: N/A.
