SeaWorld in San Antonio is the newest addition to the marine park’s chain, and is by far the largest such attraction in the world. Like its siblings in San Diego and Orlando, it features a balanced mix of marine wildlife attractions and theme park rides, including its trademark killer whale show. SeaWorld is one of the most popular attractions in Texas.
San Antonio became home to the fourth SeaWorld park in the United States in 1988. It is now third oldest as the park in Ohio has since closed. Despite being the farthest of these parks from the ocean, this SeaWorld is the largest and boasts the most extensive animal population. This is due in part from having developed new design concepts from the pre-existing parks.
SeaWorld is home to all of the usual suspects: dolphins, penguins, seals, sharks and thousands of fish. The big stars are the orcas, all unofficially nicknamed shamu. In addition to the killer whales, the facility is home to belagu whales as well, possibly the only place anywhere where both species can be found.
Sea World San Antonio is located on the west side of the city approximately fifteen miles from downtown. It is open year round, with hours varying daily and seasonally. The cost of admission is $84.00. Web: http://seaworldparks.com/en/seaworld-sanantonio (official website).
