When one thinks of immense Christian statues, the first (and often only) one that comes to mind is the Statue of Christ the Redeemer, the immense depiction of Jesus with arms outspread overlooking the magnificent beach and skyline of the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. However, this is far from the world’s tallest Christian statue. It barely makes the list of top ten in the world, and in fact is not even the tallest Christian statue in Brazil. Following are the five tallest statues of Jesus and Mary in the world (exclusive of pedestal heights), all of which were erected under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church:
Virgin of Peace
Trujillo, Venezuela (47 meters)
The Virgin of Peace, completed in 1983, was the work of artist Manuel de la Fuente and engineer Rosendo Camargo. It was built to commemorate the Virgin of Our Lady of Peace, who has been the city’s patron since the 16th century. It holds a number of records: It is the tallest statue of the Virgin Mary in the world, as well as the tallest statue depicting any Biblical figure in the world. Furthermore, it is the largest statue in the America’s, narrowly surpassing the Statue of Liberty in New York. It crowns a hill overlooking the city of Trujillo from the southwest.

Our Lady of the Mineshaft
Oruro, Bolivia (45 meters)
The tremendous statue of the Virgin del Socavon (Our Lady of the Mineshaft) is the second largest statue of Mary and the second largest Christian statue of any sort in the world. It honors the Virgin of the Mineshaft, who has been patroness of Oruro, one of Latin America’s most important mining cities, since the 18th century. Though not quite as tall as its rival in Venezuela, it is much larger in volume, and includes a statue of the infant Jesus cradled in her arms. Completed in 2013, it is arguably the more impressive of the two.

Christ the King
Swiebodzin, Poland (36 meters)
The statue of Christ the King in Swiebodzin is (to the consternation of many Brazilians) the tallest statue of Jesus in the world. Completed in 2010, it is also the tallest statue depicting a Biblical figure outside of South America. Oddly, this tallest depiction of Christ is still eleven meters shorter than the tallest depiction of Mary. Like its counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, it depicts Jesus with his arms outstretched (arguably in a somewhat more realistic pose). It is set apart however thanks to a glimmering golden crown on its head.

Just found this. Missing the 36m Jesus Christ statue that you can climb up into – Found in Vung Tao, Vietnam. Actual height of statue minus the base is 32 meters.
Thanks Alex. Good find. Not as good as that picture of me you saw in Haifa though!
The picture of the Polish statue is so cool; it really gives a sense of the immensity of these statues.
were might i find a person to create a bronze image of jesus having been crucified on the cross for a 100ft cross
Why not gold?
