DONANA NATIONAL PARK

May 17, 2015 By Howard Kramer Leave a Comment

Spain Donana National Park is a relatively small wildlife reserve in southern Spain, but one of the best places remaining on the Iberian Peninsula to view some of Europe’s endangered species.  Because of its proximity to the large cities of Andalusia, Donana draws many visitors, which both increases park awareness but also threatens the fragile area further.  Donana is one of … [Read more...]

May 17, 2015 By Howard Kramer Leave a Comment

Bolivia Noel Kempff Mercado National Park is arguably the best animal reserve in Bolivia, a country known for its wildlife.  The area around the park was not explored until the early 20th century, and largely ignored thereafter, making it one of the most pristine natural areas in South America.  It is home to some of the largest animal populations on the continent, including … [Read more...]

MANU NATIONAL PARK

May 17, 2015 By Howard Kramer Leave a Comment

Peru Manu National Park rounds out the great nature reserves of central South America.  Arguably the most important wildlife park on the continent outside of Brazil, Manu is even more isolated than its counterparts to the east if that is possible.  Located at the westernmost end of the Amazon Rainforest, it abuts hard up against the Andes Mountains, providing a phenomenal … [Read more...]

May 16, 2015 By Howard Kramer Leave a Comment

Honduras The Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve is one of the best nature areas in Central America outside of Costa Rica, and unfortunately one of the most endangered.  Loaded with both natural and historic sites, it suffers from the onslaught of minimal restrictures to either tourism or human habitation.  That said, the region’s lush rainforest houses a rich ecosystem and one of … [Read more...]

May 16, 2015 By Howard Kramer Leave a Comment

Mexico The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Central Mexico may be the most amazing wildlife reserve on the planet, at least from an entymologyst’s point of view.  This area, which was not fully appreciated until just a few decades ago, is the primary destination for North America’s migrating butterflies, primarily the Monarch Butterfly.  It is estimated that nearly a … [Read more...]

BASILICA OF ST. DENIS

Last month, I visited one of the most fascinating churches I have ever been to, the almost completely ignored Basilica of St. Denis in the northern suburbs of Paris.  Almost every French monarch is buried here, and almost nobody goes here.  Here are some pics I took:
